SUPW trip

We went to Mukteshwar where we all had to come together and build a water harvesting tanks for the people over there and paint the walls of a school. It was really cold and we all worked extremely hard but it was an amazing experience and we all had alot of fun putting the tank together. It was challenging for all of us. The people were very happy to see how hard we were working for them. Even with a slight fever and a cold al of us were willing to go and finish the work before we had to leave. It was also a great bonding time for our class as a whole.I wish i could do it all over again.

BAKE SALES

I organized four consecutive bake sales in the sports week in order to raise funds for the Balwadi Children's fun day. I gave everyone a particular task or a list of food stuff to bring in order for these sales to work out. I made a batch of 24 cupcakes for each of these days and they sold for quite a bit. We made approximately Rs.5000 each day. Managing the money and all the hungry people demanding food when we were sold out was not as easy as i though it up to be but the sales were a success and we hope to have raised enough money to have a fantastic fun day for the kids. It is really important to us that we make this day special for these children so we worked really hard on these sales and plan to have more sales soon so we can raise more money.

YARD SALE

Today i am taking the first step towards my initiative for the yard sale at friendicoes(an animal shelter). I will be receiving donations from people for the sale and have the sale around the 20th of October. The people i will include in my activity are Rhea, Anah and Avanti. They will help get donations and set up.

PEACE DAY

My initiative for now is organizing the peace  day in school for the 27th of september with Rhea and Harit. We are planing activities for the entire school for the day and making a powerpoint presentation on all the activities done that day.

The day was tiring and exciting. I organized every act and timed the classed for their performances. I was co-compare with Saahas. I also wrote a poem on Gandhi which is on my other blog. We definitely showed the entire school the meaning of peace in our own little way and hope to have made even a slight difference in the perspective of out fellow student today. We spoke to students from "Devki Arya Putri Paatshala" in Kashmir to see what kind of conditions they live and and if they differ from ours. Turns out, they are not allowed outside their houses ever. If they are found outside then they get arrested by the authorities. It was a girls school and so they did not even associate with boys. They were having a lot of electricity cuts due to the riots and 'bands' all over Kashmir so they were having trouble even taking classes in school. It really gives you alot to think about when you find out that things like this actually happen and its just not in movies and books. It was amazing experience to get the opportunity to talk to some of these girls and i'm glad to have taken this initiative.

I was in the art group and we tought them to paint with Bindi and patatoes. I also tought them how to make boats out of paper and put all of their creations on chart paper for them to see. After the activities we gave them all tang. it took them a while to open up to us but  when they did we realized we were giving them a great day and that made it an even greater day for us.

FILM WEEK

The first film we saw was ‘ Shawshank Redemption’ which was about a wrongly accused man, a banker named Andy Dufresne who faces two life sentences in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. Although he was innocent he never gave up one thing that was hope. He made the most of him time in prison by slowly changing the lives of the prisoners. He began doing the taxes of the prison guards. In exchange for a library to help the prisoners gain some respect and dignity in the world. The prison guards were cruel and beat on the prisoners for no real reason. They took advantage of their posts because they knew no one would ever stop them. The warden was corrupt and so were the guards. The man made a few friends in prison one of them was “Red”. Andy began helping them  get their high school degrees. A young man joined the prison for breaking and entering and he told him that he heard who had actually killed Andy’s wife and lover. The prison warden did not want Andy to leave the prison so he killed the young man who swore to testify on Andy’s behalf.  Andy was put in an isolated room for two months for protesting. Meanwhile he has been digging a tunnel and planning his escape for 20 years. He tells Red to find him once he has been released. Andy swims through 500 miles of shit to get out of the jail. He steals all of the wardens black money and sends their story to the press. In the end the only thing that kept him going was hope. This film shows the power of hope to redeem the human spirit, through Andy's influence on Red who is inspired by the hope that enables Andy to survive. At the end of the film after his release, Red must learn the importance of hope in order to stay alive; he needs to finds a reason to live. And by journeying to meet Andy, Red chooses HOPE over despair.

The next one we watched was "Morris" which was about homosexuality. We really dont think much about the problems they face just because of the way they are because most of us dont have to face anything like that. The movie was a real eye opener to alot of us by showing us the bitter truths or our society. Although the movie was filmed back when homosexuality was illegal, things haven't really changed much with respect to the way they are sometimes treated. The movie is about how two men fall in love in college and one of them eventually decides that it is not worth going to jail for as it is "wrong". He gets married to an unsuspecting girl and leaves his lover and moves away. Eventually his lover finds a new man and falls in love with him embracing his sexuality instead of hiding it.

Then we watched "The Help" which was an amazing movie. It was about how the white people in America were treating their help just a few decades ago. They still had the image of slavery fresh in their minds so they treated the colored people horribly and made them go outside to use the toilets. One young girl who was raised by her maid, felt for these people. She wanted to write a book with all their stories so people would see that they too, are people and should not be treated any different. She wanted to show the world how they were discriminated against and looked down upon by the rich white people. The book was a hit and it did seem to have had an effect on everyone even though it had an adverse effect on some of the help for their stories having alot to do with their bosses even though their names were concealed, it wasnt hard to tell who some of the stories were about.

Die Hard 4 was one of the most captivating movies i have ever seen till day.Exploding helicopter? Check. Vogueish free running stunts? Check. Mass vehicle pile-up in perilous location? Check. One man against insurmountable odds? Check.  Die Hard 4.0 differs from previous Die Hards is in its inclusion of a teenaged daughter, a nerdy sidekick and hacker named Warlock played by Kevin Smith . Other than the Threat Of The Web and these new additions to the McClaneiverse, it's pretty much business as usual, albeit with the swearing and violence a little toned down to achieve the most family friendly rating of any Die Hard movie to date. It's obviously not the most thoughtful, reflective or profound piece of cinema you'll see in any given day.

And the last movie we saw was Vantage point. This movie shows the same event from a different persons perspective as the assignation is attempted. It gives you a headache, sure, but it is still a very good movie, well directed. It also brings out the effect of terrorism and shows peoples humanity in the process.

INTERNSHIP

This summer I interned at Micato Travel Agency for a week. I learned a lot about how the process of planning someone’s vacation works and cruise ship travels as well. Me and my classmate Aayushman were working this internship together. We had simple tasks but important ones. We wrote the price lists of the hotels for this year and documented all the cruises that were coming to India for the year. It was a great experience and i developed interest for something i didn't even know existed.
